March Solar Generation and Export Numbers

Here is the overview for March 2024. We exported three times the amount we exported in February.

The worst generation day was the 11th with only 1.7 kWh. The best was the 24th when 17.3 kWh was generated.

The best export day was the 23rd with 10.60 kWh. This was all solar. No need to force discharge. The Agile slot prices were basically 0p all day. I turned off the battery and just let the solar export. There were three Octopus Energy Saving Sessions. That earned us 5000 Octopoints. That translates to £6.25. All in all we saved £47.91 from all the Saving Sessions.

Rather than show an export profit, I thought it would be easier to show the cheapest day.

As solar panels output declines over the years I have added the 2023 March generation to the table at the bottom for comparison. Of course weather comes into it as well, but I thought it would be interesting to track.

For the first time this year we had two days being self sustained (more solar than consumed), and fourteen days self sustained (more solar than imported from the grid)

Octopus Agile

The costs shown here do include the standing charge. Any comparisons are compared to the unit cost if we were not on Octopus Agile, which is 29.22p per kWh. The standing charge was 0.4211p.

As you can see once again we used less Agile slots to charge the battery overnight than the previous month. No surprise there. Seven of those slots were plunge pricing slots. These are where we get paid to use electricity.

March Grid Information

Standard Tariff 29.22p
Standing Charge 42.11p
Cost from the grid £35.78 (Agile) £95.20 (Standard)
Savings including export £76.74

Agile slots used 133
Agile plunge slots used 7
Average Agile slot price 10.97p
Cheapest slot -3.96p
Most expensive slot 14.049p
