Octopus Energy Daikin Heat Pump Installation - Day 5

The day has finally come for our Daikin Altherma 4kW (EDLA04E2V3) heat pump to be installed. The whole process has been managed by Octopus Energy. You can follow the journey so far (My heat pump journey with Octopus Energy - Part 1, My heat pump journey with Octopus Energy - Part 2 - Planning Permission)

Today was the final day of the install. I hardly saw the team as they were just finishing off some lagging, installing a cover for the old gas vent, and a few other jobs. Overnight the Legionella cycle had successfully run. The electricity cost when I woke up was £2.07, as I write this it is 53p after the export. Our gas is still connects as we have a gas hob.

It is interesting how the heat pump works. It has a setting called reheat. As soon as the tank goes below 43c, it will get it back to 43c. Overnight it will then heat it to your desired temperature. That can be either be 45c (eco) or 48c (comfort). We have set it to comfort. We just ran a bath and the tank went from 27c to 44c in twenty minutes.

Below are the final pictures of the installation. I hope you found these posts over the past five days helpful. I can highly recommend Octopus Energy as your heat pump installer.

Front power junction box. Cables are run from here to the back of the house. They did a nice job without having to go up and over the front door

Cable run across the front door

Cable run kept nice a low and as hidden as possible

Outside weather sensor

The cables from the front are run to this box at the back

Lagged pipes to and from the heat pump via the loft

Full length view of the lagged pipes going to and from the loft

Lagged pipes to the heat pump

Pipes fully lagged for the water tank

Extra tank above the water tank

Expansion tank in the loft

The lagged pipes are hidden by the loft insulation

My introduction to computers started at my middle school in 1981 when our maths teacher brought in a ZX80. That led the computer club being founded and using a Research Machine 380Z

My first computer was a 48K ZX Spectrum which I loved to programme. Once I left school I worked as a photocopier engineer, then a fax engineer and finally moving on the Apple computers.

For the next 30 years I worked as a system administrator. I now work in the cyber security industry as a Sophos Professional Services consultant
